TL;DR: Instinct suits people who want an assistant they simply text or call, and can get an invite. Meta Muse suits people who want an agent anyone in the US can start using today, with a free tier and WhatsApp access. Both are built for one person's errands; for team operations on payment data, Runtime fits.

Instinct and Meta Muse are two of the most talked-about personal AI agents of 2026. Both promise the same thing: tell an agent what you want done, and it does the errands, the bookings, and the bills. They take very different routes to get there.

Instinct vs Meta Muse at a glance

Instinct is a personal assistant from Spear Street Technology, Inc., founded by Noah Shinn, a former research scientist at Sierra. You text it or call it, and it uses a phone and a computer the way a person would: disputing a bill, sending gifts, ordering groceries, booking appointments, planning trips. It launched as an invite-only beta in August 2026 and added Instinct Concierge, which calls businesses for you, in September.

Meta Muse is Meta's personal agent, launched September 8, 2026, for US adults. It runs on Meta's Muse Spark model on its own cloud virtual machine, sends emails, books travel, fills out forms, and makes purchases. You reach it through iOS and Android apps, the web, or WhatsApp. It reached No. 2 in the US App Store two days after launch, according to TechCrunch.

Product and access

Instinct. The pitch is no new interface: you text or call it like a person. It connects to email, messages, screen, audio, location, and Google Workspace. Access is invite-only while the company brings up more capacity, which limits who can try it today.

Meta Muse. Muse is open to any US adult, with a dedicated app, a web version, and a WhatsApp entry point that reaches a very large existing audience. It remembers preferences, makes suggestions without being asked, and keeps working in the background after you close the app. Meta has said smart glasses support is coming.

Privacy and safety

Instinct. Instinct's terms make the user responsible for its inputs, actions, and outputs, including financial and legal consequences. Your materials may be used for model training by default, with an opt-out in settings; its Vault feature and Google Workspace data are excluded. Disconnecting an app does not automatically delete data already collected. Its privacy policy refers to third-party model providers without naming them.

Meta Muse. Muse asks for approval before sending emails or making purchases, and pays with one-time restricted cards through Stripe Link. Meta separates the working agent from credential storage under a permission system it calls Sentinel, and plans a Confidential VM option later in 2026. Sanitized interaction records can be used for training unless you opt out, and Meta acknowledges prompt injection is not solved.

Phone calls

Instinct. Instinct Concierge, announced September 16, can book restaurants that don't take online reservations, get you on a cancellation list, or sort out a cable bill. It is in early access.

Meta Muse. Muse added calls to US businesses the same day, starting with users who asked for the feature.

Pricing

Instinct does not publish pricing. Its terms say some features may require fees, which are non-refundable.

Meta Muse has a free tier. TechCrunch reported paid Power ($20 per month) and Maximum ($100 per month) plans with weekly usage allowances.

Where Runtime fits

Both products are built for one person. Neither offers team roles, shared agents, deployment in your cloud, or a choice of model, and each depends on a single vendor's stack.

Runtime is the third option for a different job: team operations on regulated payment data. It has no single-vendor dependency: agent computers run in your AWS, GCP, or Azure account or fully self-hosted, you bring your own sandbox provider, and you choose models from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, or open-weight models in your cloud, with fallbacks if a provider goes down. Your team sets the guardrails: agents start read-only, approvals sit before any payout or ledger entry, RBAC controls access, card numbers and SSNs are stripped from prompts and logs, and every run is recorded end to end. And it is built for teams: support, payment ops, finance, risk, and compliance share agents, templates, and memory, so a stuck payment becomes one investigation with one record. A forward-deployed AI engineer builds the first agents with you. Rain replaced $250k in vendor spend with Runtime.

A payments team should not run operations on a personal assistant. Use Instinct or Muse for your own errands, and Runtime for the work that touches customer money.

Which should you choose

  • Choose Instinct if you want an assistant you text or call like a person, and you have an invite.
  • Choose Meta Muse if you want to start today, at no cost, with access through WhatsApp and the web.
  • Choose Runtime if agents need to work card data, PII, ledgers, or payouts across several teams, with guardrails you set and no dependency on one cloud or model vendor.
